Oil deodorization has multiple benefits. It can not only remove odorous substances in the oil, improve the flavor of edible oil, but also increase the smoke point of the oil. At the same time, it also improves the stability, color, and quality of the oil. At present, most small and medium-sized processing plants in China mainly use intermittent deodorization processes. Different deodorization processes will have a direct impact on a series of issues such as the quality and production cost of deodorized oil. The following is an introduction to the commonly used intermittent deodorization processes in China:

Deodorization process flow:
Oil storage tank → Gas separator → Heat transfer oil exchanger → Steam heat exchanger → Deodorizer pot → Heat transfer oil exchanger → Cooler → Gas separator → Oil storage tank → Filter → Deodorizer oil
Description of deodorization process flow:
1. Pre deodorization treatment
The oil treated before deodorization generally requires dephosphorization, degumming, deacidification, and adsorption decolorization treatment. These processes require strict quality control. The oil that has undergone adsorption and decolorization treatment should not contain gum or trace metal ions, nor should it contain adsorbents. Before entering the deodorization stage, the oil needs to be transported into the deodorization tank or maintained under vacuum conditions for a period of low-temperature steam stirring for deoxygenation.
2. Stripping steam treatment
In the process of oil deodorization, high-quality steam extraction is an important condition to ensure the deodorization effect. The steam used for steam stripping should be deoxidized for boiler feedwater. The deaeration of boiler feedwater can be carried out using atmospheric thermal deaerator. After heating the boiler feed water to 100~105 ℃ for deoxygenation, it is then pumped into the stripping steam generator or boiler. The steam conveyed by the boiler or steam generator should not contain boiler water. Before entering the tower, it is also necessary to strictly separate the condensate water that may be carried in the steam through a steam water separator to prevent salt in the boiler water or metal ions in the gas transmission pipeline from mixing with the oil, causing oil oxidation
3. Stripping deodorization
Stripping deodorization is the core process of oil deodorization. The operating conditions of stripping deodorization directly affect the quality and economic benefits of deodorized oil. Intermittent deodorization equipment can be operated at low temperature for a long time, and the deodorization time is determined by the composition of volatile components in the oil. The direct steam consumption for stripping is about 4.5% for semi continuous type and 4.0% for continuous type. Various types of deodorizers should strictly prevent air leakage from accessories, external heaters, coolers, and oil pumps below the oil layer during the stripping deodorization process. During the operation of ordinary carbon steel deodorization tanks, citric acid needs to be added at a rate of 0.01-0.02% of the oil content to prepare a solution with a concentration of 5%, in order to integrate the metal ions accidentally mixed during the deodorization process and ensure the quality of the oil
