Tapioca starch pulping process

Tapioca starch is one of the main products of cassava processing. Compared with Gary and flour, it can be used in industrial applications, alcohol, textile industry, etc. There are vast markets in China, Southeast Asia, Nigeria, Europe and other countries. Therefore, more and more people hope to engage in the tapioca starch business and want to understand the manufacturing process of modern tapioca starch.

The manufacturing process of tapioca starch can be divided into 5 main parts

Cleaning and washing-crushing-screening-dewatering and drying-sieving and packaging

Cassava cleaning and washing

There are many impurities on the surface of harvested cassava. The first thing we need to do is to remove impurities such as dirt and sand from the surface of cassava. This step in the preparation of cassava starch is mainly to ensure the cleanliness of cassava and prevent impurities from entering the later stage and affecting the quality of starch.

Cassava crush

Then, we need to crush the cassava, destroy the structure of the cassava, and release the starch from the cassava. This is the most important step in the manufacturing process of cassava starch, because the crushing speed of cassava determines the yield of cassava starch.

Due to the large size of cassava, we usually use a cutting machine to cut the cassava into 3-4 mm pieces, which can not only reduce the working pressure of the cassava crusher, but also make the cassava more thorough. Then, we use wooden files to crush the cassava tubers into a slurry. At present, the wood grinder is the most effective cassava grinder, with a crushing rate of 94% or higher.

Cassava slurry screening

The screening part is also the core part of the cassava starch production process. It can be divided into two parts, the screening of insoluble impurities and the screening of soluble impurities.

Insoluble impurities mainly include fiber and sand. First use a centrifugal screen to remove large fiber particles, and then use a fine fiber screen to remove small fibers. Impurities in sand not only affect the quality of tapioca starch, but also affect the taste of starch. Therefore, sand removal is necessary for sand removal.

Soluble impurities include fat and protein. The hydrocyclone system is mainly used in the production of cassava starch, with the functions of concentration, purification and recycling.

After removing insoluble and soluble impurities, pure starch milk can be obtained.

Tapioca starch dehydration and drying

The moisture in starch milk is too high to be directly dried. Therefore, we use a dehydrator to reduce the moisture content of starch milk to about 38% (a moisture content suitable for drying). After that, we use a quick drying system to dry the starch to about 14% moisture.
Tapioca starch screening and packaging

In order to ensure the fineness of starch, a screening machine is used in the pulping process of tapioca starch to achieve the purpose of removing large starch particles. Multi-stage screening is usually used to fully ensure the quality of starch. Then, we use an automatic packaging machine to pack the tapioca starch into bags for sale.
