What is the procedure for separating starch from potatoes?
 
Generally speaking, the steps of separating starch from potatoes include cleaning, washing, crushing, fiber screening, starch refining, dehydration and drying. They can also be divided into three main steps:
 
The first step is to wash and clean the raw potatoes.
 
The potatoes harvested from the field have some impurities, such as sand, roots, weeds, and stones. Therefore, the first step in separating starch from potatoes is to remove these impurities. Dry sieve is a common machine to remove attached impurities. In order to obtain a better cleaning effect, a rotary washing machine is installed after the dry screen to further wash away impurities.
 
The second step of separating starch from potatoes is to extract starch, including potato crushing, fiber screening and starch refinement.

The last step in potato starch processing is dehydration and drying.
 
After the above treatment part, the starch is released and separated in liquid form. In the last step of separating starch from potato, what we need to do is to remove excess water and get dry starch powder with required water.
 
First, use a vacuum dehydrator to reduce the moisture in the starch milk to 38-40%, and then send the wet starch to a rapid dryer to reduce the moisture to 12-14%. The moisture content of the output starch can be adjusted according to the actual requirements of customers.
 
The steps for separating starch from potatoes are basically the same as those for preparing starch from sweet potatoes.
